Maple tree pool watcher

Based on the images provided and considering you're in upstate New York, the tree with the dark, furrowed bark could be a species of maple. The leaf shown in the second image appears to be a dried maple leaf, identifiable by its typical shape with pointed lobes and serrated edges. The bark of the tree in the first image is not as easy to identify without leaves, but it does not appear to be the smooth, silvery bark commonly associated with birch trees, which are also prevalent in New York. Instead, the bark is darker and more furrowed, which is more characteristic of some species of maple, such as the Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum) or Red Maple (Acer rubrum). Maple trees are common in the northeastern United States and can vary in bark texture and color. Sugar Maples, for instance, have bark that becomes more furrowed and rough as the tree ages. The shape and size of the leaf, as well as the bark texture, suggest that this could be a type of maple tree, but without seeing the leaves in their typical state or additional details such as the seeds (samaras), it is difficult to provide a definitive identification.
